The limits to artistic work are fluent and it cannot always be separated precisely. See also the other types of audio or video arts.
So let´s put up a list of minimal equipment:
It is amazing that it always becomes simpler!
The best is to have an optical or digital input into the computer with a
firewire or a digital soundcard.
I also made a workaround:
sent it from SONY DAT Walkman to the optical input of the SONY MD MIniDisc deck
where the signal of 48 MHz was transformed to the CD formate 44,1 MHz.
From there it was transmitted to a Philips CD Recorder and recorded on a music
CD.
This I could put into the CD drive of my PC.
Resume of that: It is very useful to have the recording directly done in the CD formate with 44,1 MHz.
I did it with Cakewalk professional. I got it from the same General Importer
as for the professional notation software FINALE.
It is used by many professional studios and contains all MIDI and sound features
you can imagine.
You get a good manual and quickly get into it.
You can´t get it faster than ordering it right here in the Section Special

Jan Pascal Stieber is musician and producer. In the beginning of this year (2006) he became his own boss. In the small town www.Buchen.de the operation assistant nurse made up his own audio studio although the music business is a tough market.
Stieber grew up with music in his school time in the benedictinian monastery Münsterschwarzach and played piano, guitar and percussion, later took singing lessons. After this he decided for a non-musical profession: Closing a three year education in Heidelberg and a two year postgraduate study as operation specialist he became nurse and assisted at operations in children´s heart surgery.
When a child died during an operation he got a psychosomatic illness and finally had to stop working as nurse. It became clear that he could not continue this work in medicine so he took a course in economy as the basis for his actual activity.
The name of his studio is Vision
in music and Stieber is open to any style of music though his own
preferences are classical and Jazz. All his services are done by himself: He has
a unique mobile studio in a van and after recording on site he can make the mix
in his acoustically optimized studio. He processes entire CD productions
including the GEMA licenses and the distribution. There are options for every
price level in his catalogue.
His target is expansion - his interest is in TV productions. He is teaching an
assistant for "Mediengestalter Bild und Ton" (audio-video-media) and
he has an official acknoledgment as teacher. By doing this hegains time for
aquisition of clients and organisation of events. Meanwhile he has contacts with
200 event managers and 230 producers from radio and TV. This fall he plans to
reach the magic number of 200 clients and he prooves his engagement for his job
by working 12 to 14 hrs a day.
